Poster series - Le Mans 1923 »

Grand Prix d‘Endurance de 24 Heures

The project "Racing Legends - Le Mans" shows, apart from the series of the overall winners, a selection of event posters from the era between 1923 and 1939. For the year 1923 the original poster of the first event was consulted as a basis of my work, in order to stage an artwork from the category "Zeitart" by displaying historical documents in combination with my special painting technique.

Further works of this poster series are depicted on the pages poster 1930 and poster 1931.

A contemporary survey has shown: A vehicle´s reliability was more important than its speed. Therefore it showed Georges Durand and Charles Faroux the way to the nowadays most famous endurance race of the world. Supported by the Rudge-Whitworth company a round-the-clock- road-race for series-production vehicles was staged. To test the road capability only the drivers were allowed to carry out repairs with vehicle tool kits.
